Hancock County Safety Council: Is Legalized Marijuana Close to Becoming A Reality in Ohio (or are Supporters Just Blowing Smoke)?

Description

This presentation will address the latest efforts to legalize marijuana for recreational use in Ohio.  Jim Yates, attorney with Eastman & Smith Ltd. will discuss:

  • The current legislative initiative in Ohio and upcoming deadlines for legislative action and placement of the issue on the ballot;
  • State, federal, and local trends related to legalization of marijuana for recreational use; and
  • Legal and practical issues that Ohio employers should consider when addressing marijuana-related workplace issues in 2022.

About our presenter:  Jim Yates, Esq., SHRM-SCP, is a member of Eastman & Smith Ltd.’s Labor and Employment Practice Group who represents employers in various labor and employment and workplace safety matters, including  defending employers in workers’ compensation matters, including VSSRs, OSHA matters, workplace intentional tort cases, employment discrimination charges and litigation, FLSA litigation, and representing employers in collective bargaining.  He regularly consults with clients regarding the drafting and implementation of employment policies and conducts supervisor training.  He is a frequent presenter to area safety councils, human resource organizations, and chambers of commerce.

Hancock County Safety Council holds regular meetings to increase awareness of a safe environment in the workplace. Safety Council is partially funded through the Ohio Department of Safety and Hygiene and meets once a month to inform participants of new safety techniques, services, and provide a thorough knowledge of topics, including occupational safety and health, workers' compensation, and risk management education
